Fresh, Easy and Breezy - Its JANE'S PARTY!

M_d02fdaf07399436eb804326cc8e53b64[1]The Jane's Party CD has been played and replayed and just thoroughly enjoyed at the Coulter household for months now. This group of young Canadian guys have an easy, casual sound and style that is very appealing. I have a vision of them just sitting around, picking up their various instruments and simply playing as they are heard here. They've played some of the great Toronto venues like The Horseshoe and Hugh's Room and we're looking forward to hearing them at one of Northwestern Ontario's rising venues - Concerts in the Parking Lot! Also, be sure to tell any college or university students in your life about this one - they won't want to miss it either.

You can check out their sound at www.myspace.com/janespartyband

Opening this week's concert will be local artist Keith Johnson.

So, come on out to "The Lot" at 7:00pm ON Wednesday, July 8th to experience JANE'S PARTY - our kick-off concert of the summer!

July 15th            Tia McGraff Duo

July 22nd           The Wild Turkeys

July 29th            Mark Potvin Blues Trio

August 5th          Cosmic Granola

August 12th        Jacob & Lily

August 19th        Last Night

August 26th        Tracy K.

Folks are asked to bring a lawn chair and a (suggested $5) donation for the performers. CDs and Ts will be available for purchase. Keep an eye out in the community for our posters or, to learn more about the scheduled artists, feel free to click on anyone from the "2009 Artists" column to go to their website. Many artists have both a personal site as well as a "myspace" site. Visit the site often for updates.

We are confidently looking forward to a sunny, warm summer filled with lots of great live music. Join us in our vision, won't you?! But hey, the show will go on either way ...

We still have opening slots for local artists. This is a casual, relaxed opportunity to play a couple of tunes for a very welcoming and appreciative crowd. Contact Andrew Coulter @ 229-2224 for available dates.

Read all about us ...

If you have the opportunity, do pick up a copy of the JUNE-JULY 2009 Lake Superior Magazine. The folks in Duluth were interested enough in what we were doing to include a full-page article in this particular issue. Needless to say, we are simply thrilled and hoping that all of those travelling around the big lake this summer are already in possession of their passports ... Cancellation ...

If you had attended The Good Lovelies concert at the end of March, you will recall that we had mentioned another upcoming concert.

Unfortunately, the "In the Winter Dark" duo - Australian singer/songwriter Emaline Delepaix and harpist/violinist Sahra Featherstone - who were scheduled to share their music with us on April 19th, have had to cancel the Northwestern Ontario portion of their tour. Scheduling and booking up this way can be particularly challenging - especially if it is not a stretch that one has travelled before.

We wish Emaline and Sahra all the best for the rest of their tour.

My goodness, they are just lovely!

Covertester[1]Three lovely ladies, three-part harmony, three times the fun - The Good Lovelies are all that and more! This talented, creative trio have only been together for two short years but have created a sound and a style that is all their own. You will enjoy their buttery-smooth vocals and flawless harmony (think Andrews Sisters) along with their much-loved witty repartee. These talented women play a wide variety of instruments varying from guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin and more.

Do yourself a spirit-lifting favour! Come on out and see 'crooning' Caroline Brooks, 'cuddly' Kerri Ough and 'scintillating' Sue Passmore when they play in Marathon on Monday, March 30th at 7:30pm at the Cross Country Ski Club.M_32dd726a5b4b7294794a62efaac11770[1] $10 or pay what you can.

Andy's Dance: Cosmic Granola

1230888173_saturday_january_10,_2009[1][1]How often have you sat politely in your lawn chair at "The Lot" resisting the urge to get up and DANCE! and just move ... something more than your foot? Well, here is your chance!

Cosmic Granola is returning to Marathon (The Legion) on Saturday, January 10th and we get to have them for the whole night! If you need a reminder about who they are, please do check them out here and here and here. A bit of blues, folk, funk, reggae, bluegrass and rock and roll - Nate, Pete and Tylor have plans to entertain us with three hours of live Granola originals as well as cover tunes.

In between sets, it will be a nonstop playlist of Andy's favourite dancing tunes. (You can do this when you're having your own dance.)

This is a licenced event and the fun starts at 9pm and goes until 1am. All money raised at the door goes to the band. Tell your friends and bring your dancing shoes - hope to see you there!

"Cat" Purring in to town ...

M_dc7a20faa6df77f728447f45a0066d88[1]Forgive me for my seemingly incessant need to work a weak pun into every post. Unfortunately for you, I don't plan on stopping any time soon!

As talked about earlier, Cat Jahnke is our next scheduled artist in "Concerts in the Basement". You can check out her sound here or here. Cat, who is just a tiny wee thing, has a very big and beautiful voice. As one reviewer siad (quoted on her site), "Her voice is as clear as a minus 30 C January day on the Prairies...”. She will be performing a wide range of material including a few selections off her Christmas CD. For those of you who are still open to a bit of Christmas shopping, there will be CDs available. Also, Cat - having just finished a stint at the "Festival of Crafts" sale in Calgary - hopes to have a few of her handmade hats and possibly other items for sale as well! As always, we'll have a casual, comfortable atmosphere with fair trade coffee, desserts and other refreshments for sale. Hope to see YOU!

The Bicycles are rolling into town ...

The Bicycles The Bicycles are on tour and coming to town! You may recall that in an earlier post, I mentioned that we felt that we couldn't limit this group to "the basement" and that they would likely have a wider appeal with the younger set. As hoped, the high school is hosting this band and is opening it up to the community. Hopefully, you'll find some time to drop in and support this event and it will be a good fundraiser for them!
